Barbero Wins Second LAPT Title

Team Pokerstars Pro Jose “Nacho” Barbero saw off all opposition in the Lima leg of the Latin America Poker Tour, Sunday June 6th, winning $250,000 for his first place finish.

In collecting the title he made history by becoming the first man to win consecutive LAPT championships, having won the Punta del Este leg of the tour previously.

He came into the final holding the chip lead and used his stack to great advantage, ultimately defeating Nicolas Cardyn heads up and firing his name into the record books.

PKR Announce Elite Tournaments

PKR will be holding a series of tournaments open to their top players. The tournaments are open to all the PKR pros, as well as any winners of their flagship tournaments – PKR Masters, Grand Prix and PKR Live amongst others.

The tournaments will be filmed for broadcast on PKR’s own T.V. channel (www.pkr.tv) as well as across Europe on the Poker Channel.

“These elite tournaments provide players the chance to stand out from the crowd,” said PKR’s cardroom manager Neil Wright.

Ben “Milkybarkid” Grundy May Take On Durrrr Challenge

With the Tom Dwan/ Patrik Antonius face-off approaching completion, Ben Grundy may be the next man to step up and stand toe-to-toe with “durrrr.”

“The offer of $1.5 million if I beat him, compared to paying out $500,000 is really appealing,” wrote Grundy on his popular blog.

“I’d definitely do it if i could sell a big enough percentage. I’d guess the worse case scenario would be losing $2 million ish, then having to pay up $500k. I’m way to much of a bankroll nit to take the chance of that kind of loss.”

WTP Recruiting Further Big Names

Not to be confused with the World Poker Tour, World Team Poker has been created to give poker players an opportunity to compete for their country at poker. The roster of names who have associated themselves with the WTP is already impressive, with Doyle Brunson, Men Nguyen and Johnny Chan amongst others scheduled to turn out to represent their countries.

The inaugural event, held May 19th, saw China, led out by Johnny Chan, take down the title and future projects could see players such as Kristy Gazes, Chris Moorman and newly-minted bracelet-winner James Dempsey added to the ranks of talent.
